The Apple Store is down and we can only hope its to make way for the mighty iPhone 2!
So, since I didn’t really want the Undertow freebie that Microsoft offered to it’s XBox Live Gold Subscribers to make up for the downtime, I thought I would give a call and see if I could get a refund for the downtime or at least get Microsoft to extend my 2 Xbox Live accounts for an additional month. I paid for this service and Microsoft failed to provide the service I paid for. Makes sense to me, but I guess not to the Microsoft representative and supervisor I spoke with.
Mac OS X 10.5.1 Build 9B13
So I was attempting to install Microsoft DPM 2007 on a fresh Windows 2003 R2 X64 Server Machine and everything look like it was working fine until I would get to the actual installation part (after all pre-requisites had been met) and I would prompt me for my Windows install CD and it was trying to find convlog.ex_ and no matter what I did, even pointing it to the convlog.ex_ file it would bomb out with error 810. What it ended up being was that after the OS install I had added IIS via add/remove programs, windows components and browsed out via a UNC to where I had a Windows 2003 R2 X64 install CD mounted. So even though IIS installed fine this way, when I ran the DPM install it was looking for the original drive letter that was used for the OS install, in this case Drive Letter D:. So since I was doing this install remote, I changed my CD drive letter of the physical CD drive from D: to another unused drive letter. Then using MagicDisc, I mounted an ISO for the Windows 2003 R2 X64 OS CD to Drive letter D:. I then uninstalled IIS using add/remove programs, once this was uninstalled I re-ran the MS DPM 2007 install this time it automatically installed IIS during the install procedure with out prompting me for my OS install CD.
I have been more than frustrated today with Dreamweaver CS3 crashing on me. So, I thought back to anything new I may have installed on my machine over the last few days, and about what changes have happened that might have caused some sort of change. I also copied my site files over to my mac, but could not recreate the problem.
While there was a major change over the weekend, I kept thinking to myself that there is no way this is related to the time change. Computers are beyond the point where a simple time change can cause havoc like this, right?
FALSE
It appears that Dreamweaver doesn’t like the Daylight Savings Time change very much. According to an article on Adobe’s site, which strangely enough was just updated today, when you select certain lines of code while in code view in PHP or ASP sites, you may experience crashes. Keep reading for steps on how to solve this issue.
Office 2003 SP3 Released by Microsoft
Microsoft has released a security update and bug fix rollup for Microsoft Office 2003. The office is big enough that they are calling it Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3). Beyond security updates for all of the major programs in Office 2003, there are also some changes that modify the behavior of Office 2003 including:
Apple post details on iPhone Rebates!
Apple has finally posted the details of the $100 dollar iPhone rebate plan. I went through and did each of my phones and it worked perfectly. You can enter in your $100 credit online or take it to the store to use the coupon for purchasing more Apple goodies. Not that $100 is going to go a long way at the apple store, but have you ever gotten money back months later on something you purchased because the price dropped.
Thanks Apple for taking care of your customers! You really are a step above.
Apple iTunes 7.4 Now Available to Download
Well, it looks like iTunes 7.4 is now available to download this morning. It was one of the things I was looking forward to the most yesterday, but when I visited Apple’s site, I was saddened to see the “Coming Soon” label on the top right hand corner of the page for ringtones. So, I got up this morning to study for my next Apple Certification test like all Apple Fanboys do and decided to check software updates since nothing had popped up when I opened iTunes. Low and behold there it was. Continue reading for more info…

Parts of the Apple Store Down
Went to check the status of an iPhone order that was placed yesterday online at the Apple Store and received the following error at 8:53 A.M. EST stating that the Order Status services are temporarily unavailable due to a schedule upgrade to our systems…
Clicking on any of the following under “Your Account” on the Apple Store: View your orders, Order status, Track packages, Cancel items, Return items, Print Invoice brings you to a message saying the store is down pending an announcement later in the day.
NBC, in an attempt to strong arm Apple, announced that they would not be renewing their contract with iTunes and Apple when it expires in December of this year proving once again that big media dinosaurs just don’t get it. Apple knows and plays the game better than anyone. They have built online music and media into the market that it is today and it works because of the way they are doing it. Now, the big media dinosaurs are trying to get in on the game and the greedy machine of big media is trying to push Apple into a business model that will fail miserably and rake Apple’s customers over the coals. Apple, indisputably better at the game than anyone else, has decided to take the high road on this one and walk away.
While I will miss my iTunes episodes of the Office and Heroes, I must say that I would rather sit on the sidelines with Apple on this one. It is just another example of a dinosaur media company fighting for their archaic system instead of embracing the future of media and entertainment.
Shame on you NBC
Thank you Apple
