The update shows “bug fixes” as what it fixes. It does not appear to really add any new features to the iPhone. Some users are saying that speakerphone and play back of voice mail through speakerphone are louder.
This update does not appear to fix any Exchange Server email features or problems namely the deleting of emails on the iPhone still only marks the messages as being read in Outlook or Entrourage and not actually deleting them.
Users who have hacked their iPhone may see problems with their update and may be required to restore to factory default and then update. Make sure to backup your photos on the phone prior to upgrading also as a precaution.

While attempting to setup an organizations first iPhone on their Exchange 2003 Server using IMAP SSL we were getting errors stating that the username and password were incorrect on the iphone and on the Exchange Server we would get Event ID 680 (Failure Audit):
Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Error Code: 0xC0000064
Finnaly notice that under active directory the user account did not have any UPN login information configured (username@somedomain.local). I entered their login name and selected the domain information from the drop down. I was then able to get the iPhone to connect via IMAP.

Having used the iPhone since release day in a metropolitan area (Tampa) the cell service has been decent, although crossing the bridges I did have some dropped calls / lost service and in one of the large department stores on the first floor the phone lost service. So I got to thinking / worrying, as I had just ported my number over from Verizon to AT&T, how would the iPhone on AT&T perform while not in my home area. So I booked a flight to the mountains of Colorado to do some testing (actually it was a planned family vacation).

Results after the break

Getting asked a lot on how to sync contacts and calendar from Exchange down to the iPhone. So this is how I have mine setup using my MacBook Pro and Entourage. First I setup my Entourage client to connect to my Exchange server using OWA address (which works awesome by the way).
Once that is working, go into Entourage Preferences and goto “Sync Services”, put a check mark in the “Synchronize contacts with Address Book and .Mac” and in the “Address Book:” drop down box I chose “Contacts [DSG Exchange Server]”

Been playing with the iPhone since I got it at about 6:45Pm on June 29th and the first aspect that I wanted to test was the ability to connect to our corporate Exchange server. Had to allow IMAP through the firewall first and configure the Exchange (2003) server to allow SSL IMAP connections. After some initial problems getting the iPhone to connect I was successful in getting connected.
So my email shows up and all the subfolders of email show up, attachment viewing great, but the major problem / challenge I am running into now is the email only syncs one way. If I delete a message from the iPhone it never deletes it from the server. It will mark the message as being read but thats about it. I am going to try it on another Exchange server to see if its any better on another installation of Exchange 2003. So close yet so far away!
