Mac Lovers / Gamers rejoice. EA announced late Friday that it is FINALLY shipping some of the OS X Compatible games it promised at WWDC earlier this year. The title currently shipping are Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Bettlefield 2142, Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars and Need for Speed Carbon. The games will also be available in Apple retail stores on August 21st.

The announcement did not include two highly anticipated title for Mac OS X. Madden 2008 and Tiger Woods 2008 were notable exclusions from the announcement, with no explanation from EA as to why they are being delayed.

Apple has been consistently taking over more and more market share over the last few years and getting a huge developer on board such as EA has been another step in the right direction.

Still kinda wondering how they pulled this one off, but tonight Microsoft announced the addition of Walt Disney Company fils to the Xbox 360 Download service. The Xbox live download system already includes titles from Warner Brothers, Paramount and Lion’s gate. This will be a nice addition to the download library on Xbox live although they will not have as many Disney titles as iTunes. One of the bigger titles that will be missing from Microsoft’s library is “Pirates of the Caribbean At World’s End” Speculation is this is because of the close ties between Disney and Apple.

Sony may be the first to offer a price break on the newest generation of video game systems, but the are behind the eight ball on the download services. According to CNET News, Sony may be set to announce a movie and TV download service for the Playstation 3 at E3 Week this year. Microsoft has had movie and TV downloads for sometime now, and Apple entered the ring earlier this year with the introduction of their Apple TV. Both of the current contenders have their drawbacks though.

Microsof’ts interface and video quality are incredible, but I have experienced some technical bugs in the system. Microsoft still owes me a copy of Spongebob Squarepants Wigstuck that errors out even after support calls to XBox support where they have supposedly corrected the problem. Apple TV has a great interface, but the video quality for downloaded content is still pretty low resolution. With any luck, Sony will have been paying attention to what the blogs, reviews and users have been saying about their competition and will put out a full featured, user friendly system.

In an open letter from Peter More, Microsoft has announced that it is extending the warranties for consoles experiencing the infamous three flashing red lights. The extended warranty will cover new and previously sold XBox 360 units that are affected by what Microsoft describes as general hardware failure.

It was reported last week on several large technology blogs that the failure rate of Microsoft’s newest gaming consoles was possibly as high as 33%. Of the 6 people I know with XBox 360 systems, 3 have had to send theirs back in to date because of hardware failure and one that didn’t send in his broken console because Microsoft wanted to charge him $150.00 to fix it.

It is nice to see Microsoft finally admitting to this problem and doing what is right for the consumer. The XBox 360 is by far my favorite of the big 3 right now and this move will help Microsoft save some face in the gaming community.
